Antoine Griezmann Acknowledges Atletico Madrid's Struggle to Halt Mason Greenwood in Getafe's Last-Minute 3-3 Draw
Admitting their inability to thwart Mason Greenwood's impact on the game, Antoine Griezmann expressed frustration as Getafe managed to secure a late 3-3 draw against Atletico Madrid.
Getafe orchestrated an impressive comeback from being 3-1 down, sealing a point with Borja Mayoral's stoppage-time penalty at the Metropolitano Stadium in a thrilling LaLiga encounter.
Atletico faced a setback early on as Stefan Savic received a red card in the 38th minute, reducing them to ten men. However, Griezmann managed to break the deadlock with a close-range finish from Rodrigo Riquelme's cross.
Despite Getafe's equalizer in the second half through Mayoral capitalizing on a rebound from Jan Oblak's save, Atletico regained the lead with Alvaro Morata's towering header and another goal by Griezmann from the penalty spot.
Getafe, however, refused to back down and narrowed the gap with Oscar Rodriguez's deflected shot in the 72nd minute. The visitors then leveled the score in additional time with Mayoral converting a penalty, causing Atletico to drop points at home for the first time this season.
Speaking post-match, Griezmann highlighted Greenwood's impact on the game, stating, "Mason Greenwood was really causing us problems in the second half, we couldn't stop him and it cost us the game."
Greenwood, currently on loan with the Spanish side for the season, aims to revive his career after facing legal issues earlier in 2022. Notably, Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control, which were later dropped by the CPS after the player denied all allegations.
