Manchester City has released a cautionary statement following an unsettling incident in Belgrade, where a contingent of their supporters encountered aggression from Red Star Belgrade hooligans just before their anticipated Champions League clash.
Despite the harrowing encounter, Pep Guardiola's squad emerged triumphant with a 3-2 victory over Red Star Belgrade in the final group stage bout of the UEFA Champions League.
During the match, Guardiola notably entrusted several young talents, such as Micah Hamilton and Bobb, both of whom contributed goals for City. Kalvin Phillips, securing Manchester City's third goal from a penalty spot, was notably included in the starting lineup for the game.
Tragically, a group of traveling City fans fell victim to an attack at approximately 11 pm on Tuesday by balaclava-clad assailants wielding wooden sticks. Reports from the Manchester Evening News confirm that although a few individuals required hospitalization due to minor injuries sustained during the altercation, they have since been discharged.
Footage circulating on Twitter captured around 30 Red Star hooligans, clad in dark attire and masks, attempting to force their way into a bar where Manchester City supporters were situated. The City fans valiantly defended themselves, striving to prevent the aggressive ultras from gaining entry into the establishment.
