Joan Laporta sheds light on the progress of the breakaway competition
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has disclosed that 15 clubs are poised to join the European Super League project, expressing optimism about its potential launch in the upcoming season.
This revelation follows recent statements from Anas Laghrari, co-founder of A22 management, asserting that 20 teams across Europe have already committed to participating in the proposed tournament.
After a period of silence surrounding the European Super League concept, A22, the driving force behind the ambitious initiative, unveiled plans for a revamped 64-team competition in December.
This announcement came on the heels of a landmark decision by the European Court of Justice, which ruled that UEFA and FIFA had violated competition laws by attempting to thwart the establishment of a European Super League.
Laporta, in a conversation with Catalan radio station RAC 1, identified 15 clubs that have reportedly expressed interest in joining the league, hinting at the possibility of its inception in the forthcoming season or by 2025-26.
