West Ham United officially announced the departure of the 28-year-old forward, Saïd Benrahma, who has now joined French Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais on transfer deadline day.
Initially, negotiations between the two clubs seemed to falter as they struggled to reach an agreement within the closing hours. However, despite the tense moments, the deal eventually materialized, allowing Benrahma to make the switch to Lyon on loan until the conclusion of the 2023/24 season. Additionally, there exists an option for Lyon to secure his permanent transfer in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Benrahma's journey to Lyon comes after his previous stint with West Ham, where he was signed from Brentford in October 2020. During his time with the English club, the 28-year-old made significant contributions, scoring a total of 24 goals in 155 appearances. Notably, he left a memorable mark by scoring in the UEFA Europa Conference League final triumph over Fiorentina in Prague in June 2023.
