Legendary footballer, Jay Jay Okocha, has stepped forward to defend his nephew, footballer Alex Iwobi, who has been targeted by intense cyberbullying following the Super Eagles' loss in the AFCON final to Ivory Coast.
In the 2023 African Cup of Nations final on Sunday, Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat to Côte D'Ivoire, with second-half goals from Frank Kessie and Sebastian Haller securing the comeback. Iwobi, who was substituted after the first half, became a focal point for trolls on social media due to his performance.
Jay Jay Okocha, the former Nigerian footballer and Iwobi's uncle, addressed the issue on his social media platform. Posting on Instagram this morning, Okocha shared his thoughts:
‘’I pray for my country Nigeria and the people that can only hate and see nothing good in others. When effort counts for nothing, treat people the way you want them to treat you. All we have is this life and each other. We love you @alexanderiwobi, and we keep going no matter what they say. The Lord is good all the time, and we trust that His will be done in our lives. Amen.”
