Atlético Madrid and Dutch football sensation, Memphis Depay, reportedly paid a staggering €1 million in bail to facilitate the release of Dani Alves from prison following his rape conviction.
The former Barcelona and Brazil star, Alves, found himself sentenced to a four-and-a-half-year prison term for allegedly assaulting a woman at a nightclub in Catalonia in 2022.
Since January 2023, Alves had been in custody until his release on Monday, March 25, after meeting the bail requirements.
Speculation swirled regarding how Alves would manage to afford his bail, given his financial challenges. However, an unexpected benefactor emerged.
According to journalist Mabhut Al-Narri, it was Depay who extended a helping hand. Depay, currently showcasing his talents as a forward at Atlético Madrid, had previously shared the field with Alves during their time at Barcelona. Al-Narri's tweet, which unveiled Depay's involvement, hinted at contrasting rumors regarding the source of Alves' bail funds.
"Exclusive: Memphis Depay is the one who paid one million euros in bail for Dani Alves and was released from prison today. It is not rumored that Neymar was the one who paid, but rather that he and his father evaded paying," Al-Narri disclosed in his tweet.
