Finidi George Resigns as Super Eagles Coach, Cites Lack of Communication from NFF
Former Nigerian international Finidi George has stepped down as the head coach of the Super Eagles, citing a lack of communication from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regarding the appointment of a foreign technical expert.
In an interview with Colin Udoh, a former media officer of the Eagles, Finidi revealed that he had a meeting with the NFF on Thursday, where they discussed the team's future plans, but there was no mention of bringing in a foreign technical adviser. "The reason being that he met with the NFF on Thursday and they had a very good conversation," Udoh said. "They spoke about the things they need to do going forward and he (Finidi) asked if he will be back."
However, Finidi claimed that he was not informed about the NFF's decision to appoint a foreign technical expert, which was made during a board meeting on Wednesday. "At no point during that meeting did anyone tell him they were going to appoint a foreign technical adviser," Udoh said.
Finidi reportedly learned about the decision through a phone call after arriving in Port Harcourt. "He (Finidi) had to park his car and read the link to see that it actually was true," Udoh said. Feeling overlooked and no longer wanted, Finidi waited for two days for an official communication from the NFF, but none came, leading him to tender his resignation.
The development has sparked debate among Nigerian football fans, with many questioning the NFF's decision and calling for better communication and transparency. As the search for a new coach begins, the Super Eagles face an uncertain future, and fans can only hope for a swift return to success.
