Senate Minority Leader Olalere Oyewumni Embroiled in Vote-Buying Controversy

A trending online video has sparked controversy, allegedly showing Senate Minority Leader Olalere Oyewumni admitting to engaging in vote buying during the 2023 election. The Osun federal lawmaker made the alleged confession while receiving defectors into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In the video, Oyewumni appears to acknowledge attempting to buy votes at Onilu House (Ile Onilu) polling unit, stating, "I tried all the tricks I knew to win... but these people didn't allow me." He further alleged that after exhausting his election funds, he gave his personal money to "Ten-Ten" to distribute to voters on the eve of the election. However, "Ten-Ten" reportedly returned the money, saying the voters rejected the offer.

Oyewumni expressed surprise at the rejection, stating, "That was why I reached out to these people because I cannot be a Senator and continue to fail there." He also claimed to have recruited Ayandosu from Abuja to join the PDP, citing his talent and the limitations of his former party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The authenticity of the video and Oyewumni's alleged admission have yet to be officially confirmed or denied. However, the controversy has already sparked significant attention and debate online.
