Arsenal Football Club has had an initial offer of £40 million for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori rejected, but negotiations are ongoing, with the Gunners only £2 million short of the Italian club's valuation.
Calafiori, a highly sought-after left-back, has impressed in Serie A, making 34 appearances for Bologna in the 2022-2023 season, scoring two goals and providing three assists. His performances have caught the eye of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who is keen to bolster his defensive options.
Arteta looks keen to boost his squad following their campaign last term when they finished second in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old Italian international was a key player for Bologna last season, starting in 31 league matches and playing a total of 2,754 minutes. His impressive form earned him a call-up to the Italian national team for the 2024 European Championship, where he made two appearances as Italy reached the quarterfinals.
