Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho has completed a season-long loan move to his boyhood club Vasco da Gama from Aston Villa.
Coutinho, who signed for Aston Villa permanently in May 2022 for a reported fee of £17 million after a successful loan spell, amassed 41 appearances and scored six goals for the Premier League club across two seasons.
Despite his contributions, Coutinho now seeks a return to his roots. "It's a feeling of great happiness," he said. "I lived abroad for a long time, so it really is a feeling of coming home, to the place where I grew up, to the place I love, the club I love."
The 32-year-old began his career at Vasco da Gama's youth academy before departing for Inter Milan in 2008. After a successful stint in Europe with clubs like Liverpool and Barcelona, Coutinho returns to Brazil hoping to reignite his career at the familiar surroundings of Vasco da Gama.
