Jens Lehmann, a former German goalkeeper, has launched a scathing attack on midfielder Robert Andrich's decision to dye his hair pink.
Recall that Andrich, 29, unveiled his new look ahead of Germany's Euro 2024 quarter-final match against Spain, which ultimately ended in a 2-1 extra-time defeat for Germany.
The match against Spain marked Germany's exit from the Euro 2024 tournament, with Dani Olmo and Mikel Merino scoring for Spain, and Florian Wirtz scoring the lone goal for Germany.
Lehmann, speaking to German outlet WELT, expressed his disapproval of Andrich's hairstyle, suggesting that the player may have "personality problems" and calling on UEFA to ban such hairstyles. "Nowadays, you have to be careful, because maybe he feels like a woman or something. You have to be very tolerant. In the context of a national football team, which is the elite, I think that at some point it becomes a bit too much," Lehmann said.
The former goalkeeper continued, "First, it was blond hair, now it's pink hair. What is he trying to show us? Does he somehow have personality problems that he has to stand out like that?" Lehmann also questioned how Andrich's teammates would perceive his new look, saying, "As a teammate, I would have found it very strange. And I don't think the national coach thinks it's so great either."
