Manchester City faces a surprising development as young forward Julian Alvarez, who has notched 19 goals for the club across all competitions this season, has reportedly requested a transfer after rejecting a proposed contract extension.
Alvarez, who caught the eye of manager Pep Guardiola during his time at River Plate, joined City in 2022.
According to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, the Argentinian international striker has declined a contract offer that would have extended his stay at the Etihad Stadium until 2028.
Furthermore, reports suggest that Alvarez has requested the club establish a reasonable asking price to facilitate a move to another European club.
Julian Alvarez has remained second striker under Pep Guardiola given the form of Erling Haaland who seems to be the preferred option to lead the attack.
Currently, Julian Alvarez is with the Argentine national team playing at the 2024 Copa América.
Argentina will face Colombia in the final of the competition in the early hours of Sunday morning.
