Kylian Mbappe, the 25-year-old forward for Real Madrid, has acquired a majority stake in the French football club Caen for €20 million.
As a result of this transaction, he will become the principal owner, with Pierre-Antin Capton retaining the remaining shares valued at €5 million.
Caen, established in 1913, is a prominent French football club currently competing in Ligue 2. The club boasts a notable history, including two Ligue 2 championships.
Mbappe has a personal connection to Caen, having nearly joined the club in 2013 before opting for Monaco. His family’s business, led by his mother, Fayza Lamari, is also involved in this acquisition.
At 25, Mbappe will be the youngest majority owner of a European professional football club. This acquisition represents a significant milestone in his career and a new phase in his life.
The takeover is expected to be completed shortly, with Mbappe’s family business poised to take control of the club’s operations. While future plans for Caen remain unclear, it is anticipated that Mbappe will implement substantial changes and investments to enhance the club’s prospects.
