The U.S. Soccer Federation announced today that Gregg Berhalter has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Men's National Team (USMNT) following the team's disappointing exit from the 2024 Copa América. Berhalter oversaw a total of 74 games during his tenure, compiling a record of 44 wins, 13 draws, and 17 losses.
"We are grateful to Gregg for his leadership and commitment to the USMNT program over the past five years," said U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Matt Crocker in a statement. "He has played a significant role in developing young talent and moving the program forward. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
The USMNT's performance at the Copa América, which concluded with a group-stage elimination after losses to Panama and Uruguay and a lone victory against Bolivia, raised questions about the team's direction under Berhalter's leadership. With the 2026 World Cup on home soil fast approaching, U.S. Soccer is now focused on securing a new head coach who can maximize the team's potential on the biggest stage.
"Our immediate focus is on finding a coach who can lead us towards success in 2026," Crocker continued. "We have a talented young core of players, and we are confident that the right coach can help them reach their full potential."
