Ollie Watkins, the hero of England's nail-biting victory over the Netherlands in the 2024 Euros semi-final, has spoken about a remarkable premonition he shared with teammate Cole Palmer before the match.
The Netherlands took an early lead through a Xavi Simons wonder strike, leaving England needing a response.
Despite captain Harry Kane equalizing from a penalty, the Three Lions struggled to break down a resolute Dutch defense. With the clock ticking down and the tension mounting, Gareth Southgate turned to his substitutes in the 80th minute, bringing on Watkins and Palmer in a bid to change the tide of the match.
Watkins, the eventual hero, revealed a surprising conversation he had with young midfielder Palmer just before they entered the fray. "Honestly, I swear on my life, my kid's life," Watkins declared, "I said to Cole Palmer, 'We're coming on today and you're gonna set me up.'"
Meanwhile Gareth Southgate side now face Spain in the final this weekend.
