The upcoming 2024/25 UEFA Champions League season introduces significant changes as the competition prepares for a revamped format.
The traditional group stage has been replaced by a single league phase, expanding the number of participating teams from 32 to 36. Each team will now play eight matches against different opponents, with an equal split of home and away games. This modification aims to create a more dynamic and inclusive competition, ensuring more teams can partake in the prestigious tournament.
The group stage draw is scheduled for Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Football fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating the draw to see how their favorite clubs will fare in this new format. The top eight teams from the league phase will automatically advance to the Round of 16, while those finishing between ninth and 24th will compete in a knockout play-off round to secure the remaining spots in the Round of 16.
This new structure increases the total number of matches from 125 to 189, ensuring more football action spread across dedicated weeks exclusively for the Champions League. The competition will maintain its two-legged ties for the knockout stages, culminating in a single-leg final at a neutral venue.
