Filip Jorgensen has officially joined Chelsea from Villarreal for £20.7 million, signing a seven-year contract. The 22-year-old Danish goalkeeper had an impressive season with Villarreal, making 37 appearances as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.
Regarding his transfer, Jorgensen shared his excitement, stating, “This move is a dream come true. I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world.” He further expressed his eagerness to integrate into his new environment, saying, “I can’t wait to get to know everyone and to start playing with all my new teammates.”
At Chelsea, Jorgensen will compete for the starting goalkeeper role with Robert Sanchez.
Originally from Sweden, Jorgensen represented the Swedish national team at youth levels before switching his allegiance to the Denmark Under-21 team, which he qualified for through his father's heritage. He began his journey with Villarreal at the age of 15, advancing through their youth ranks and making his senior debut with the B team in October 2020. His La Liga debut followed in January 2023.
Jorgensen has already traveled to the United States to join Chelsea’s pre-season tour.
