James Brown, a prominent crossdresser, has spoken out about the tragic passing of fellow crossdresser Abuja Area Mama. In a heartfelt Instagram video, Brown warned his peers against posing as prostitutes on the streets, emphasizing the risks involved in Nigeria's homophobic environment.
Brown stressed, "Never have I dressed as a woman and then stood on the road. Never. My own rag queen is for content on Instagram, to shoot movies." He clarified that his cross-dressing is solely for social media content and emphasized that he has never engaged in prostitution. Brown's words highlight the importance of prioritizing safety in a country where homophobic attitudes prevail.
Brown's message is clear: "Have you heard me say I am going for runs before? Even though you are a drag queen. It doesn't mean you should stand on the road and be waiting for a car to pick you up." He urged his fellow crossdressers to exercise caution and avoid putting themselves in harm's way.
Brown's warning comes after Abuja Area Mama's tragic death, whose body was found on an expressway in Abuja with visible signs of violence. Brown's words serve as a poignant reminder of the dangers faced by the LGBTQ+ community in Nigeria and the need for vigilance in the face of homophobia. As Brown emphasized, "Nigeria is a homophobic country. Stay safe out there."
