Family of Kano Man Arrested for Allegedly Sewing Russian Flags During Protests Denies Involvement, Says He Doesn't Even Know How to Use a Sewing Machine

The family of Ahmad Yusuf Muhammad, a 21-year-old who was recently arrested in Kano for allegedly producing Russian flags, has come forward to assert his innocence. According to the family, Ahmad does not have any experience with tailoring, let alone the ability to operate a sewing machine.

Ahmad was apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) along with several other tailors who were suspected of mass-producing Russian flags. These flags were allegedly displayed by protesters during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance demonstrations. However, Ahmad’s brother, Nasiru Yusuf Muhammad, insists that his brother is not involved in any such activity.

In an interview with *Daily Trust*, Nasiru clarified, “He is my biological brother, and he was arrested on the grounds that he was the one sewing the Russian flags. I want to make it clear that he has never been a tailor, nor does he know how to handle a sewing machine.”

Nasiru further explained that Ahmad might have inadvertently implicated himself due to the stress or fear he experienced during the arrest. “He is a used water sachet recycling dealer, and we are all involved in that business. He works directly under me. The sewing machine that was allegedly linked to him is not his; it was found in a neighbor's house, and the owner has since fled.”

According to Nasiru, the flag in question was never in Ahmad's possession, and he had no involvement in the protests. “We had previously warned him to stay away from the protests, and he complied,” Nasiru stated.

The family is now appealing to the security agencies and relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure justice is served. “We urge the concerned authorities to carefully examine the case and release him. He was not a tailor and is not guilty of the charges being leveled against him,” Nasiru concluded.
