Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has once again urged the "End Bad Governance in Nigeria" protesters to engage in dialogue.
In his call for dialogue, Wike emphasized the importance of open communication between the government and the citizens. He assured the protesters that the government is prepared to listen to their concerns and address them adequately. Moreover, he offered to provide insights into some governance issues that the protesters might not be aware of, hoping this would foster better understanding and cooperation.
Wike made these remarks on Thursday, August 1, during the presentation of staff of office to four newly appointed chiefs in the territory. This ceremonial event was an opportunity for him to address both the newly appointed chiefs and the broader community, underscoring the importance of unity and constructive engagement in addressing national issues.
Praising the nonviolent approach of the protesters in the FCT, Wike acknowledged their efforts to make their voices heard without resorting to violence. He commended their peaceful conduct, stating that it sets a positive example for other parts of the country. Wike encouraged them to maintain this nonviolent stance and continue resisting those who seek to destabilize the nation. He stressed that the integrity and stability of the FCT are crucial for the well-being of Nigeria as a whole.
He emphasized that Abuja, as the nation’s capital, is a valuable asset to the country, and any harm to the FCT would have negative repercussions for the entire nation. Wike pointed out that the capital city is not only a symbol of national unity but also a hub for political and economic activities. Therefore, protecting and preserving its stability is in the best interest of all Nigerians. He urged everyone to work together to ensure the continued peace and prosperity of the FCT and, by extension, the entire nation.
