Kepa Extends Chelsea Contract Until 2026, Joins Bournemouth on Loan as Maresca Trims Squad

Kepa Arrizabalaga, Chelsea's record-signing goalkeeper, has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay until June 2026.

However, he will spend the 2024/2025 season on loan at Bournemouth. This follows his loan spell last season with Real Madrid, where he filled in after Thibaut Courtois suffered an injury. Despite this, Kepa faced competition from Andriy Lunin, limiting his appearances.

Kepa's journey at Chelsea has been mixed since his high-profile transfer from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 for €80 million, a world record for a goalkeeper. Over his tenure, he has made 163 appearances for Chelsea, winning several domestic and international titles, including the UEFA Champions League in 2021. However, his performance has often been scrutinized, leading to multiple loan spells in recent years.

This season-long loan to Bournemouth is seen as an opportunity for Kepa to regain his form and stability, as he seeks more regular playing time under Bournemouth's new manager, Andoni Iraola.
