Enoh acknowledged that the team's performance fell short of expectations and objectives, saying, "I must apologize to our compatriots and reflect on what went wrong." He attributed the poor outing to a combination of factors, including inadequate preparation time and the challenges of executing multiple international competitions simultaneously.
Upon assuming office in August 2023, Enoh faced the daunting task of preparing for four major competitions, including the Olympic Games, with limited time. Despite these challenges, he remained committed to sustaining Nigeria's international sports image and embarked on a progressive approach to drive athlete and coach performance.
Enoh convened meetings with National Sports Federations, constituted a Ministerial Podium Performance Advisory Committee, and approved onshore and offshore training camps to support athlete preparation. However, despite these efforts, the team's performance was underwhelming, prompting a comprehensive review process to identify areas for improvement.
The Minister emphasized the need to learn from the experience and make necessary improvements, stating, "We owe Nigerians an explanation... Let's turn the disastrous outcome of the 2024 Olympics into a huge positive for Nigerian sports."
