A devastating fire broke out at the Trade Fair complex in Lagos State on Sunday, August 11th, 2024, resulting in the destruction of goods worth billions of naira. The inferno, which swept through an extensive warehouse, engulfed six assembly lines and destroyed a wide range of equipment and household gadgets, including televisions, refrigerators, and air conditioners. The total damage is estimated to be in the hundreds of billions of naira.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that the fire rapidly consumed the entire warehouse, threatening nearby buildings and facilities. However, a coordinated effort by various emergency response units, including LASEMA’s Elife Fire Unit, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Federal Fire Service, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), successfully contained the blaze and prevented further destruction.
While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, authorities have confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident. The prompt response from the emergency services played a crucial role in mitigating what could have been an even greater disaster.
