Nigeria’s 4×400 meters men’s relay team has faced disqualification despite their initial qualification for the relay final at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

On Friday, the Nigerian team—comprising Emmanuel Ojeli, Ezekiel Nathanial, Dubem Amene, and Chidi Okezie—had earned their place in the final by securing second position in Heat 2 with a season-best time of 2:59.81, just behind the French team, who were the hosts.

However, the team's hopes were dashed due to a technical violation during their heat. It was ruled that one of the Nigerian runners had crossed the lane markings, inadvertently causing a collision with a South African runner. This infringement was deemed a lane violation, resulting in the disqualification of the Nigerian team.

Following this ruling, Nigeria will no longer be competing in the 4×400 meters men’s relay final. The spot previously allocated to Nigeria has now been reassigned to the South African team, which had been adversely affected by the incident.
