Tobi Amusan has kicked off her quest for an Olympic medal with a stellar performance in the women's 100m hurdles at the Paris Olympics.
The Nigerian track and field star secured first place in her heat race, clocking a time of 12.49 seconds. Amusan’s dominance was evident despite being seeded in lane 9, which can be a challenging position due to its outermost placement on the track.
Alysha Johnson finished in second place with a time of 12.61 seconds, while Janeek Brown came in third with a time of 12.84 seconds. This result guarantees Amusan’s progression to the semi-finals of the women's 100m hurdles.
Amusan, who made her Olympic debut in Tokyo three years ago, currently holds the world record for the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.12 seconds. This record was set at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Her strong start in Paris reaffirms her status as a leading contender in the event.
