A 19-year-old YouTuber named Norme has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest time spent without sleep, completing a grueling 12-day vigil. His achievement, which captivated thousands of viewers, has garnered significant attention due to the extraordinary nature of the feat and the potential risks involved.

Norme’s record-breaking attempt was broadcasted live, drawing in a substantial audience and raising widespread concern for his well-being. As the marathon progressed, his fans frequently called the authorities out of fear for his health, prompting police to conduct regular welfare checks. Additionally, social media platforms took action by imposing multiple bans on Norme’s accounts, reflecting the contentious nature of his endeavor.

When Norme finally surpassed the previous record with an astonishing 264 hours and 24 minutes of continuous wakefulness, around 9,000 viewers were tuned in on ‘Rumble,’ a platform that has emerged as an alternative to YouTube. As he approached the final hours, the situation outside his home became increasingly tense, with ambulances and police cars lining the streets as friends and onlookers anxiously observed the conclusion of his challenge.

Norme’s record eclipses the previous benchmark set by Randy Gardner in 1964. Gardner, then a 17-year-old high school student, managed to stay awake for 11 days. His attempt, which was closely monitored by scientists, resulted in severe hallucinations and confusion, highlighting the significant risks associated with prolonged sleep deprivation.

Since Gardner's record, there have been other notable attempts to push the boundaries of human endurance. For example, McDonald and Maureen Weston reportedly remained awake for over 400 hours, but their efforts were not officially recognized by Guinness World Records, leaving Norme’s recent achievement as the definitive milestone in this unusual and extreme category.
