EFCC Recovers $180,300, 53 Vehicles from Nigerian FraudstersThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over $180,300 and 53 vehicles to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, recovered from Nigerians who fraudulently obtained them from Canadian citizens. The EFCC
Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, stated that the Canadians were victims of cybercrimes and that the recovery and return of the assets demonstrate the commission's commitment to fighting financial crimes.

Olukoyede emphasized the need for international collaboration to tackle financial and other forms of crime, noting that financial crimes have become a global problem. He praised the collaboration between the EFCC and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which has resulted in many recoveries and joint operations.

The EFCC Chairman also emphasized that Nigeria should not be seen as a hub of financial crimes, but rather as a transit point for criminal activities. He pledged to investigate, prosecute, and recover assets for victims of financial crimes, stating that the Nigerian government does not tolerate financial crimes.

The recoveries include $164,000 taken from Bogomas Elena and $16,300 from Sandra Butler, as well as 53 vehicles recovered on behalf of the victims. The EFCC's Zonal Director, Micheal Wetkas, provided background on the recovery process, noting that the Canadian police approached the commission in 2012 regarding stolen vehicles.

Premier Secretary and Deputy High Commissioner of Canada, Robert Aboumitri, commended the EFCC for their efforts, stating that the recovery is a testament to their professionalism and commitment to combating crime. He praised the partnership between the EFCC and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, noting that it is a key partnership in the fight against crime in West Africa.
