The English midfielder was among the players who were on the Chelsea shortlist to be sold on summer transfer.
Speaking to the media, Enzo Maresca stated, "I really, really like Carney Chukwuemeka... but we have so many attacking midfielders," highlighting the depth of options at his disposal. He added, “Unfortunately, we didn’t find solutions in the summer. Now we can use him,” indicating that the young midfielder could play a bigger role moving forward, particularly after Chelsea did not secure additional midfield options during the transfer window.
Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in August 2022 for a reported £20 million, a significant move that made him one of the most expensive under-18 transfers at the time. Although his appearances have been limited due to injuries, Chukwuemeka managed to score his first goal for Chelsea during the Premier League game against West Ham. His contributions also included an assist in an FA Cup match against Liverpool.
