Sentenced in March 2023 for alleged cyberbullying connected to the high-profile case of Lagos celebrity auto dealer Ikechukwu Ogbonna, popularly known as IVD, and his late wife, Bimbo Ogbonna, Blessing’s journey through the justice system has not only revealed her resilience but also her unique perspective on life behind bars. After serving a month, she regained her freedom in April 2023, but the stories she has to tell are far from ordinary.

In a candid interview with popular media personality DaddyFreeze, Blessing recounted the unexpected challenges and dynamics of prison life. One particularly surprising aspect she revealed was her ability to navigate the restrictions surrounding mobile phones. “You have like a phone booth, but phones are not allowed. Phones are like contraband,” she explained. Despite the official ban, Blessing highlighted a rather humorous side of prison culture, noting how “some people will always find ways to sneak in these phones.” Her account sheds light on the complexities of prison life in a country grappling with corruption and the unspoken rules that govern daily interactions.

Her escapades took a fascinating turn after just two days in custody. Needing to make a financial transfer, she approached one of the wardens for assistance. “She now gave me my phone and asked me to sit down and do the transfer,” Blessing recounted. However, her vibrant personality led her to do something unexpected: after completing the transfer, she decided to post a photo on Instagram. With a cheeky caption that read, “One man mopol, no shaking,” Blessing unknowingly set off a storm on social media, leading to widespread speculation about her imprisonment. “Everywhere scattered. ‘Blessing was not in prison; she posted,’” she laughed, recalling the frenzy her post ignited.

However, this moment of levity quickly turned into a nerve-wracking ordeal. In the dead of night, a group of wardens descended upon her cell, searching for what they believed to be a hidden phone. “About seven wardens came knocking on our cell,” she recalled. “They came to search all of us. ‘Contraband was everywhere.’” The irony of the situation did not escape her; she had simply posted an image and returned the phone, yet now she faced the consequences of what they perceived as a serious violation. “They didn’t know I just posted and dropped the phone,” Blessing said, illustrating the often unpredictable nature of life in confinement.
