NAFDAC Warns Against “Deceptive” Use of Its Name by Christ Mercy Land Ministries Over Unregistered

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an official warning to the public regarding the activities of Christ Mercy Land Deliverance Ministries, led by Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin. The agency accused the ministry of falsely using NAFDAC's name and a fabricated NAFDAC registration number to mislead and deceive the public.

Deceptive Use of NAFDAC's Name

In a statement released on Sunday, September 8, 2024, NAFDAC’s Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, clarified that none of the products advertised by the church are registered with the agency. The statement read, "NAFDAC wishes to alert the public on the activities of a faith-based organization – Christ Mercy Land Deliverance Ministries – that uses NAFDAC's name to deceive the unsuspecting public." The agency has been inundated with complaints from concerned citizens regarding the sale of "Miracle Water" and "Miracle Soap," products promoted with healing claims by Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin.

False Claims of NAFDAC Registration

According to the petitions submitted, the ministry promoted these products on social media, claiming they could cure barrenness. Prophet Fufeyin allegedly told his congregation that women who used the products would bear twins, further claiming that the products were NAFDAC-registered. Among the products presented for verification were Miracle & Healing Water, River Jordan Water, and Water from The Pool of Bethsaida.

NAFDAC Investigation and Findings

NAFDAC’s investigation revealed that there was no record of the church’s products in their Delta State office. As part of the probe, a covert operation was conducted, and Miracle Water was purchased from the ministry for ₦3,000. However, when questioned, the church officials denied any involvement in producing the Miracle Water or Soap, despite evidence to the contrary.

Following this, NAFDAC's enforcement team attempted to investigate the manufacturing site but faced non-cooperation from the ministry. Despite repeated attempts to schedule meetings, the church’s representatives failed to show up for investigations, opting instead to submit legal documents requesting more time.

Sealing of a Partner Factory

Further investigation revealed that Christ Mercy Land Deliverance Ministries had contracted the production of these products with Globod Table Water in Delta State. As a result, NAFDAC has sealed the Globod Table Water factory for aiding the production and sale of unregistered and potentially dangerous products.

NAFDAC concluded by reiterating that none of these products have been approved by the agency, urging the public to avoid them. "NAFDAC is a scientific organization guided by verifiable scientific facts before registering any product," it stated, adding that it will continue its investigation into the ministry's activities.

Finally, the agency issued a stern warning to faith organizations against the illegal production of regulated products without meeting the necessary regulatory standards.
