
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Núñez tagged Suárez and wrote, "You are huge. Thank you from the heart for everything you did for me in the national team. You were my idol without knowing you, and you are even more so now that I know you."
Núñez continued, "As you said, you came as a child and leave as a legend. It's everyone's dream, and you fulfilled it."
Luis Suárez, who has earned 142 caps and scored 69 goals for Uruguay, will play his final match for the national team on Friday against Paraguay in a World Cup qualifier.
Darwin Núñez, who has represented Uruguay 29 times and scored 13 goals, is among the new generation of players inspired by Suárez's legacy.
