Ex Chelsea Boss, Mauricio Pochettino Begins Reign as USA Coach with a Win

Mauricio Pochettino, the seasoned Argentine manager, has officially begun his tenure as head coach of the United States men's national soccer team.

Pochettino, who previously managed top European clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea, was appointed on September 10, 2024.

In his debut match, Pochettino led the USA to a 2-0 victory over Panama on October 12, 2024. The match, held at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, saw goals from Yunus Musah in the 49th minute and Ricardo Pepi in second-half stoppage time. Musah's goal was his first international goal, marking a memorable moment in his career.

Pochettino's appointment comes as the USA prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States. His extensive experience and tactical acumen are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the team for the upcoming tournament.
