Manchester City is set to compete against Southampton on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Etihad Stadium.

Manager Pep Guardiola recently confirmed that key players Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker will not be available for the match due to their ongoing injuries.

Guardiola discussed De Bruyne’s situation, emphasizing that the midfielder is still not at his optimal fitness level. "Kevin is not 22 years old anymore, he has to be fit for his football," Guardiola stated.

He added that De Bruyne must be fully fit to perform at his best but currently “doesn’t feel comfortable” enough to reach his potential. The player reportedly told Guardiola, "I still don’t feel good," prompting the manager to advise him to "take your time."

Walker’s absence is also a point of frustration for Guardiola, as the defender is recovering from a knee injury sustained while on duty with the English national team.

De Bruyne’s groin injury, picked up during a Champions League clash against Inter Milan on September 18, 2024, has kept him sidelined for the last six matches across all competitions. Walker, meanwhile, has missed two consecutive games for Manchester City due to his knee issue, adding to Guardiola's selection challenges as City aims to maintain momentum in the league.
