Libya and Nigeria Clash Amidst Controversy
Libya's captain, Faisal Al-Badri, claimed that his team faced mistreatment in Nigeria ahead of their match, an accusation that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) denied.
Shortly after, Nigeria's captain, William Troost-Ekong, accused Libya of sabotaging their pre-match travel arrangements for the return fixture. In the first leg held in Uyo, Nigeria, the Super Eagles achieved a 1-0 victory, with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scoring the decisive goal in the 86th minute as a substitute.
However, during the second leg in Libya, the Nigerian team encountered significant challenges. Their flight was diverted to a remote airport, causing them to be stranded for over 12 hours without basic amenities such as food, water, or phone service.
Consequently, the team decided to boycott the match, citing the unfair treatment they endured.
