Real Madrid's star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is set to miss the upcoming El Clásico against Barcelona this weekend.
Courtois sustained a muscle injury during Real Madrid's recent Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund, which ended in a thrilling 5-2 victory for the Spanish giants.
The Belgian goalkeeper was instrumental in the match, making several crucial saves that kept his team in the game. Unfortunately, his efforts were overshadowed by the injury he picked up in the latter stages of the match. Real Madrid's medical team has diagnosed Courtois with an adductor muscle injury in his left leg, sidelining him for at least two weeks.
This injury adds to Courtois’ recent struggles with fitness, as he has missed several matches this season due to a similar injury. Courtois also spent a significant portion of last season out of action due to an ACL injury. Despite these setbacks, the club remains optimistic about his recovery, acknowledging that such injuries are common post-ACL tear.
In Courtois' absence, Real Madrid will rely on Andriy Lunin to step up as the starting goalkeeper. Lunin, who kept ten clean sheets in 17 La Liga appearances last season, has proven himself a reliable deputy.
Real Madrid, coming off their impressive comeback win against Borussia Dortmund, are preparing for the highly anticipated El Clásico against Barcelona. Fans will be hoping that Courtois' absence will not impact the team’s performance in what promises to be a fiercely contested match.
