A Tunisian pilot, who was responsible for transporting the Super Eagles to Libya for their upcoming match, has revealed details of a mid-flight incident.
According to the pilot, top Libyan authorities allegedly ordered them to change the flight’s destination. In a video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the pilot described how, despite planning to land at the designated airport, they were instructed to divert to a different location just as they neared their original destination.
The pilot stated that he had made multiple attempts—at least eight—to inform the officials about the issue, but they insisted that the command came from the highest authority and had to be obeyed.
Sport writer Pooja Media shared the video on his social media platform.
Following the incident, the Super Eagles returned to Nigeria after being stranded at the Al Abraq International Airport for over 15 hours.
If you recall that in the first leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Nigeria defeated Libya 1-0, with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scoring the decisive goal in the 86th minute.
