Victor Boniface will miss Bayer Leverkusen's Champions League clash against Brest on Wednesday following a car accident on Sunday.
The Nigerian striker, who played a key role in his team’s 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt over the weekend, sustained minor injuries in the crash but is recovering well. The incident occurred after the match, which saw Boniface redeem himself by scoring the winning goal, despite an earlier penalty miss.
Bayer Leverkusen emerged victorious against Eintracht Frankfurt, with goals from Robert Andrich and Boniface. Frankfurt had initially taken the lead through Omar Marmoush from a penalty in the 16th minute.
Andrich equalized shortly after, and Boniface sealed the victory in the 72nd minute, ensuring Leverkusen maintained their strong form in the Bundesliga.
As for the accident, Boniface was reportedly involved in a collision due to driver fatigue en route to Frankfurt's airport. While his injuries were minor, the striker will need more time to recover and process the shock of the event. Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen’s manager, expressed his relief that Boniface was not seriously hurt but emphasized the importance of allowing him space to recover fully. The team will proceed without him for their midweek European fixture.
