Barcelona midfielder Pedri recently revealed the inspiration behind his heartwarming decision to hand over the captain's armband to teammate Gavi during their 5-1 triumph over Sevilla.
Defying traditional protocol, Pedri bypassed the most senior player on the field, Iñaki Peña, to bestow the honor upon Gavi.
Pedri's reasoning was rooted in Gavi's remarkable journey, having recently returned from a 12-month layoff due to a long-term ACL injury. "Neither Frenkie nor anyone else was there," Pedri explained. "It was the perfect moment to give it to him; I think he deserves it because he's worked incredibly hard to be here today." This poignant gesture underscored Gavi's dedication and perseverance.
The match itself showcased Barcelona's dominance, with Robert Lewandowski scoring two goals, Pedri adding another, and Pablo Torre netting two late goals. Sevilla's lone goal came from Stanis Idumbo-Muzambo. Gavi's return was made even more significant by his substitution into the game in the 67th minute.
