Michael Essien, the former Chelsea and Ghanaian midfielder, has reached a major milestone in his coaching career by completing his UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth A coaching licenses.
Currently a coach with FC Nordsjælland in Denmark, Essien shared his journey on social media, expressing gratitude to those who supported him.
He posted, "Step by step, I am learning and growing as a coach. Happy to have completed my UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth A license. Thanks to the family, @fawales, my tutors, my mentor, and RTD/FCN for the support. And big thank you to Tom Vernon and Flemming Pedersen."
In a separate message, Essien celebrated his UEFA certification in football management, posting, "Finally done with my UEFA certificate in football management journey. Thanks all for the help. I keep learning about the beautiful game. ⚽️📓🖊 #UEFACFM." This certification reflects his commitment to mastering football management principles alongside his coaching credentials.
Essien’s coaching aspirations follow a successful playing career, especially at Chelsea, where he made 168 appearances, scored 17 goals, and contributed to numerous title wins, including two Premier League championships, four FA Cups, and the 2012 Champions League. His career also included stints with Lyon, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Panathinaikos, and he retired from professional football in 2020.
