This move follows a period of being without a club since the summer, after his contract with Galatasaray ended. Van Aanholt has signed a deal with Sparta that runs until the end of the 2024-2025 season, with an option for an additional year.
Throughout his career, van Aanholt has played for several notable clubs across multiple countries. In England, he represented Chelsea, Sunderland, Wigan Athletic, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace. He also had spells at Leicester City and Coventry City.
In the Netherlands, he notably played for Vitesse and PSV Eindhoven, where he enjoyed domestic success, including winning the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup. Most recently, van Aanholt spent time at Galatasaray before joining Sparta.
Sparta is excited about the addition of van Aanholt, with technical director Gerard Nijkamp praising his experience and proven quality at both domestic and international levels.
