Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard has chosen to skip Norway’s November international fixtures as he continues recovering from a lingering ankle injury.
The 25-year-old suffered this injury while playing for Norway in September, sidelining him for nearly two months. After a gradual return, including a full 90 minutes in Arsenal's recent 1-1 draw with Chelsea, Odegaard and Norway’s medical team agreed that he is not yet fit to play competitively.
Odegaard explained, “After discussions with the medical staff at the national team, we have unfortunately come to the conclusion that the situation is not good enough to play these games.” He added that, while his long-term goal has been to return fully to both club and country, his limited practice over the past nine weeks has prevented him from reaching top form. “I need to listen to my body, complete this rehab process, and get my foot back in good shape,” he said.
He expressed disappointment over missing Norway’s critical UEFA Nations League matches against Slovenia and Kazakhstan, sharing, “It’s a very bad feeling to lose these games. I love playing for Norway and with this team, but I have great faith in the boys and wish them the best of luck — there are still good opportunities to win the group”.
