Rúben Amorim has made a bold decision for his managerial debut at Manchester United by including 16-year-old defender Godwill Kukonki in his first matchday squad for the upcoming fixture against Ipswich Town.
Amorim, who took charge of the team earlier this month, has been impressed by Kukonki's performances during training. The youngster, who stands at 6ft5in, has been training with the senior squad during the international break after catching the coach's attention with his strong presence and technical ability.
Kukonki, primarily a centre-back but versatile enough to play at left-back, has made a significant impact in Manchester United's U18s, drawing comparisons to top defenders like Manchester City's Josko Gvardiol.
Amorim, known for his focus on youth development, has clearly signaled his intent to integrate emerging talent into the first team. His decision to include Kukonki for his debut game against Ipswich Town shows a clear commitment to promoting youth players.
