Porto's talented forward, previously recognized as Samu Omorodion, has officially changed his name to Samu Aghehowa to honor his mother. This decision reflects the deep gratitude and respect he feels for her support throughout his life. The 20-year-old recently received his first call-up to the Spanish national team and took the opportunity to explain his choice, emphasizing his mother’s pivotal role in his journey.
Aghehowa spoke emotionally about his mother’s impact, sharing, "Everything I do is for her, so that she feels proud of me. She is the most important woman in my life; she has helped me at all times." He further described her influence, adding, "She has a fundamental role, she is the pillar of my life. Without her, I don't know what I would do."
Recalling his Spain call-up, Aghehowa highlighted the moment’s significance for his mother. "Before I called her to tell her, they had already informed her. She started crying. I am also very happy for her and very proud of everything I am doing and of being able to offer it to her," he expressed.
Aghehowa’s standout season at Porto, marked by 12 goals in just 13 appearances, has secured his spot in the national team and drawn comparisons to players like Alvaro Morata. His determination and talent have earned the praise of Spain coach Luis de la Fuente, who remarked, "At just 20, [Aghehowa] has shown remarkable football potential. His rapid rise has attracted attention, and it’s time to support his growth."
