The Ukrainian winger, who transferred to Chelsea in January 2023, has denied any wrongdoing, stating that he has "never knowingly used any banned substances."
In their official response, Chelsea expressed full support for the Football Association's anti-doping measures while standing by the player. The club confirmed they are cooperating fully with the authorities to clarify the situation. "Mykhailo maintains that he has not intentionally breached any rules, and we will continue to support him during this process," the statement read.
Mudryk, surprised by the result, emphasized his innocence and stated that he is actively working to investigate how the banned substance may have appeared in his system. The case now hinges on further analysis, including testing of a B sample, which could determine whether the suspension becomes formalized.
The banned substance, identified as meldonium, was added to the World Anti-Doping Agency's prohibited list in 2016 due to its potential performance-enhancing benefits. If found guilty, Mudryk could face a lengthy ban, though the duration will depend on the findings and any mitigating circumstances.
