Bello, a former governor of the state, is currently facing allegations brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The charges include conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and illegal possession of property. Alongside Bello, two others—Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu—have also been implicated in the case. All three have entered not-guilty pleas.
On December 19, 2024, Justice MaryAnne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court granted Bello bail, setting the amount at ₦500 million. The bail conditions mandate three sureties with properties in affluent areas of Abuja, such as Maitama, Guzape, or Asokoro. Additionally, Bello is required to surrender his travel documents and cannot leave the country without prior judicial approval.
Upon his release, Bello was welcomed by Governor Ododo and his supporters amidst celebrations commemorating the occasion.
