The match commenced with Everton asserting early dominance, but it was Nottingham Forest who struck first. In the 15th minute, Chris Wood capitalized on a counter-attack, lobbing the ball over Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to give Forest the lead.

Everton responded with increased pressure, registering 13 shots on goal. However, their efforts were thwarted by Forest's resolute defense and goalkeeper Matz Sels, who made crucial saves to maintain the clean sheet.

The visitors sealed their victory in the 60th minute when Morgan Gibbs-White, assisted by Wood, doubled the lead with a composed finish.

Despite the loss, Everton's manager, Sean Dyche, acknowledged the team's struggle to break down Forest's organized defense after conceding the first goal.

This result elevates Nottingham Forest to 37 points from 19 matches, placing them five points behind league leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand. The victory also solidifies their position ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea, with the latter having the opportunity to overtake them if they win their upcoming match against Ipswich Town.

Nottingham Forest's manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, praised his team's organization and commitment, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their performance level as they continue their pursuit of European competition.

The match was attended by a crowd of 39,000 spectators at Goodison Park.
