Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that defender John Stones will be unavailable for the upcoming Premier League match against Everton on December 26, 2024.
Stones, who recently returned from a foot injury, was substituted at halftime during City's 2-1 loss to Aston Villa on December 21, 2024, after experiencing a recurrence of the issue.
Guardiola addressed Stones' condition, stating, "Still I didn't talk with the doctors, but apparently if he could not continue in the second half in Villa Park, it's because he will not be ready."
This setback adds to Manchester City's defensive challenges as they prepare to host Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Boxing Day. The team is currently experiencing a dip in form, having secured only one victory in their last 12 matches, which has impacted their pursuit of a fifth consecutive Premier League title.
In addition to Stones, goalkeeper Ederson is also expected to miss the Everton match due to injury, with Stefan Ortega anticipated to start in goal.
Manchester City's upcoming fixtures include a Premier League match against Leicester City on December 29, 2024, followed by a home game against West Ham United on January 4, 2025.
