Discussing the separation, Tiwa explained:
"The way our situation happened, he announced it online. I did not break up with him, but I was the one being attacked. My baby was just a few months old at that time. My body wasn’t the same because I was dealing with postpartum and depression. Only a few people came to see me. Everyone went to him."
Tiwa also recalled facing backlash after trying to share her side of the story in an interview. She said critics accused her of neglecting her role as a woman and blamed her for the marriage’s failure.
"It was very heartbreaking how the public blamed me. Ever since then, I was like, ‘I won’t ever talk about the situation.’ It was an eye-opener for me. It made me depressed and angry for so long. Then I became the ‘African Bad Girl.’ I started getting tattoos and wearing bikinis and short skirts.”
Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz began as a professional team, with Tee Billz managing her career. Their relationship evolved, and the pair got engaged in February 2013. They held a traditional wedding in November 2013 in Nigeria, followed by a lavish white wedding in Dubai on April 26, 2014.
The couple welcomed their son, Jamil, in 2015. However, their marriage faced significant challenges, culminating in a public fallout in April 2016 when Tee Billz accused Tiwa of infidelity and other issues. Tiwa responded by denying the allegations and accusing him of mismanaging funds, substance abuse, and neglecting their family.
The marriage ended shortly after, and both have since focused on their individual pursuits, with Tiwa dedicating her energy to her music and personal growth while co-parenting their son.
