Tijani Babangida, born on September 25, 1973, in Kaduna, Nigeria, enjoyed a distinguished career as a winger. He joined Ajax in the summer of 1996 for a €5 million transfer fee.
During his tenure at Ajax, Babangida made 77 league appearances, scoring 20 goals.
In his first season, he played 29 league matches, netting four goals, and was instrumental in Ajax's European campaign, contributing three goals, including a decisive strike against Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
In the subsequent season, Babangida's performance was even more impressive, with 13 goals in 26 league appearances, making him the club's third top scorer behind Shota Arveladze and Jari Litmanen. His contributions were pivotal in securing the Eredivisie title and the KNVB Cup for Ajax.
