Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided insight into Takehiro Tomiyasu’s recovery from a significant knee injury that has sidelined him for months. 
The defender has returned to some on-field activities, but Arteta stressed the importance of evaluating his progress and monitoring his reaction to increased training intensity.
Tomiyasu’s knee injury, sustained earlier this season, has been a considerable setback for the team. His absence, combined with other defensive injuries, has left Arsenal managing a stretched backline. Ben White, who also underwent knee surgery, is expected to return later this month, but Tomiyasu’s reintegration will depend on his recovery pace.
As Arsenal prepares to face Brighton & Hove Albion in a Premier League clash this weekend, Tomiyasu will remain unavailable. The match, scheduled for Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the Amex Stadium, is pivotal as Arsenal aims to narrow the six-point gap to league leaders Liverpool.
To address the defensive gaps, Arteta hinted at Thomas Partey potentially covering the right-back position.
